My Other Obsession...

I confess I am obsessed with healthy living lately. Almost all my posts deal with it and are on my other blog. But, though I am not going to reprint them here, they are indeed part of a quest for truth. Anyone living today can feel the affects of the foods we ingest if they stop and listen to their bodies. Those tissues and organs are telling us something - whether it is "all's well" through silence or "I don't feel so good" through more active responses. Mine's been yelling at me for years and became so hoarse from the strain that I didn't even notice it was saying anything at all until Stephanie joined my life.

She could not believe my body was normal. I had a huge appetite and little on my body. I reacted adversely to many foods and didn't feel well on most days. She encouraged me to seek help and I did. I went to doctors and had blood tests and other "sample" tests done that I just remember as something to not revisit. They told me that I was hypoglycemic and had multiple food allergies. Treatment for the first involved eating less sugar and more complex carbs. Treatment for the second was to avoid foods.

I finally developed taste buds for real food after I became an adult and having those new found flavors taken away was a bit of a tragedy for me. It didn't seem right that anyone should be denied the right to eat food on any level. So we tried  finding doctors and alternative medicines to treat my problems. Each step got me a little healthier and a little more stable. As we started becoming more organic with our diets I found many of my allergies were slipping away.

This latest move to soaked-grains and unaltered foods like raw milk has been changing the whole family. There is a powerful truth behind eating correctly. My hypoglycemia is all but gone now and my appetite is decreasing. We've found that most of my allergies are related to inorganic farming methods or food processing. Each step is one closer to full health.

I know people get upset at hearing about healthy living and such, but I know there is deep truth behind it. God wants us to feel healthy - He gave us a Law of Health (D&C 89) to help us get there. I am excited to finally be heading that direction.

Last Day at Work

Today I left my job for the past 3 1/2 years. I was going to be leaving tomorrow, but we've been so slow lately that I spoke to my boss and he let me go early. I packed up my things and said goodbye to everyone I could before heading out the door and making my final half hour commute home. I cried quite a bit before and during that drive.

I'm going full time school (more than, actually) on Monday and playing Mr. Mom every morning this semester. Steph will be writing for the internet during the morning hours. It was hard figuring out what to do for this semester, but we knew leaving my job was the right thing to do. I will miss it, though possibly not all the cold (exposed warehouse work is a little chilly during Utah Winters).

Although it was hard work I will miss it. I learned a lot from that job. They taught me about hard work and leadership and gave me job skills like forklifting, torch-cutting and crane operating that can come in handy during future summer months. I hope they continue to do well.

Onto the new year! I will be doing a lot of school and get to see my kids every day for a few hours in the morning. I have volunteered for breakfast duty the whole semester and have a fantastic new griddle to help out there.

Life is good. Things are working out the way they should and I am grateful to all those who've given us support - tangible and non - on our new direction. Thank you for being there for us.
